Promote the game of Golf to those who have an upper extremity disability due to a Physically Challenged condition for the purpose of Competition, Recreation, and Physical & Emotional Rehabilitation.

Brief History of ​NAOAGA

October 2000

Alan Gentry, Don Fightmaster, Bill Frey, and Scott Lusk (from nearby Guston) gathered at a downtown Irish pub to discuss forming a one-armed golfers’ organization. They held their first organizational meeting that day and appointed Mr. Gentry as the inaugural president.

Eight months later, 32 one-armed golfers from across the USA came to Louisville to compete in the first NAOAGA championships.

In addition to Gentry, Scott Lusk, Tom Hartnett, and Bill Frey Jr. have all served as past presidents of the organization. Daniel Aldrich is the current president of NAOAGA, having been elected in July 2017.

2024

Since its inaugural year, the NAOAGA annual meeting and championship (AM&C) has taken place each year at a different venue across North America. The AM&C has been held in the West (Nevada twice), the Midwest (Indiana twice and Chicago), Canada (Montréal and Prince Edward Island), and the South (Kentucky and Florida three times). The 2024 event celebrated our 24th anniversary.

Arm Divisions

In accordance with eligibility standards to be considered a disabled athlete recognized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), NAOAGA will classify golfers with disabilities based upon the following definitions:

G5

Assisted

Fullgraf Division

Named for Keith Fullgraf

The golfers in this sport class have impairments affecting at least one arm.  For any stroke played during a round of golf: at the initiation of the stroke through striking of the ball, this class is allowed to have two points of intentional contact on the club or contact on the arm holding the club.  Any intentional aid from an artificial appliance, prosthetic, anchoring the club or part of the impaired arm is allowed as a second point of contact.  This category includes limb deficiency; impaired passive range of motion and impaired muscle power related to the arm.

Unassisted

Getchell Division

Named for John Getchell

The golfers in this sport class have impairments affecting at least one arm. For any stroke played during a round of golf: at the initiation of the stroke through striking of the ball, there can only be one intentional point of contact on the club and no intentional contact to the arm holding the club. Any intentional aid from an artificial appliance, prosthetic, anchoring the club or part of the impaired arm is not allowed as a second point of contact. This category includes limb deficiency; impaired passive range of motion and impaired muscle power related to the arm.

Golfers in this division may be either assisted or unassisted. Official USGA player handicaps are utilized in computing scores for the purpose of competition.

Golfers in this division are 55 years old and up

Women

Coopers Division

This division is for women 18 years and older who have an arm impairment and meet the definition of arm assisted G5 or arm unassisted G4

Barton Never Quit Cup

Barton NQ Cup

Named for John Barton

Barton Never Quit Cup for match play participate in a series of alternate shot and best ball events throughout the tournament.

​NAOAGA Programs

​​The North American One-Armed Golfer Association (NAOAGA) was established in October 2000 to promote golf among individuals with upper extremity disabilities.

AM&C

NAOAGA hosts an Annual Meeting & Championship for its membership each year at a different championship venue in North America. In its first 16 years of existence, events have been successfully staged from:

NAOAGA hosts a Winter Regional each year typically in January. Join us for a fun filled 2-3 day event in the sunny south!

The Fightmaster Cup

The Fightmaster Cup is a trademarked international competition featuring top players from NAOAGA and the United Kingdom’s Society of One-Armed Golfers.

Junior Program

NAOAGA started our Junior division in 2019 to introduce and grow the game of golf to Juniors with an upper limb impairment. Our Junior program is fully funded by donations received from individuals, family, friends, and businesses who have a love and passion to impact the lives of the Juniors.

NAOAGA offer scholarships for a Junior and a legal guardian to attend our tournaments covering registration and travel expenses. NAOAGA will also assist financially for Juniors to participate in other Adaptive events as well. Juniors qualifying age brackets Senior in Highschool and under.
